Odin's Craft Wellness was founded, like many great things, out of necessity.
Running a small tattoo studio in Cape Town, our founders faced a challenge when their supplier of aftercare products unexpectedly closed down. Faced with a decision on what to stock next, they saw an opportunity. Instead of outsourcing this vital part of the tattoo experience, they decided: why not take responsibility and create a product themselves?
But the next question was: where to begin? Fortunately, the co-founder was already working in the pharmaceutical industry and suggested leaving the formulation and manufacturing to trusted professionals. After all, quality and reliability were non-negotiable. What followed was a long process of searching, testing, and countless rounds of samples and adjustments. Thanks to the persistence and collaboration of the team—both in-house and with their partners—the first products were finally ready. And today, we are proud to offer the tattoo care products that embody the same commitment to craftsmanship as the tattoos themselves.
As for the name "Odin's Craft," it was a case of embracing a stereotype.
With the founding brothers being of Dutch descent, the tattoo artist was often referred to as a "Viking-looking dude." Eventually, he decided to roll with it. While not originally part of his aesthetic, it seemed fitting. His fondness for the historical record by John of Wallingford, a Medieval English chronicler, played a role in solidifying the brand's identity. Wallingford noted that the Danes were “too acceptable to English women by their elegant manners and care of their person... they combed their hair every day, bathed every Saturday, and changed their garments often.”
This contrast between the rugged Viking stereotype and their attention to grooming felt analogous to how tattoo enthusiasts are often perceived. The name "Odin's Craft Wellness" is a nod to the Vikings’ balance of strength and refinement, just as our products offer the best of both worlds: bold, enduring care with meticulous attention to detail.
